Oscar predictions!
WThe Oscars are tonight!
I've often tried to watch all five Best Picture nominations for a given year. I've never succeeded at this. Well, for the first time, I've seen five Best Picture nominations. ...unfortunately, there are ten nominations this year. Sigh. I actually managed to see 8 of them — I'm missing
A Serious Man and
Blindside. Also, it looks like Best Picture is the major contested race. Will it be
Avatar or
Hurt Locker? Based on all the other awards given this season, it'll be
Hurt Locker. But honestly, having seen both?
Hurt Locker's great, but I think
Avatar should win.
Anyway, here are my picks for the wins! (I've capitalized my picks.)
UPDATE [3/8/10]: I've gone and italicized the actual winners. I got 12 out of 21. 6 of those correct guesses were the major 6, but that's not too fancy since most critics agreed on all but Best Picture (which really Avatar deserved more than Hurt Locker, and REALLY neither picture was the absolute best in the category. But Hurt Locker absolutely nailed their marketing and were able to present themselves as the antithesis to Avatar. I think it should have gone to Avatar for how revolutionary it is, but even purely on quality I rank Up and Up in the Air more deserving than Hurt Locker. Hurt Locker IS good, but only Academy politics made it "best." Anyway, 12 out of 21. The upsets for adapted screenplay and the two sound categories didn't help me. :/ Alas!
